Betty Hull Obituary

Betty Jeanne Hull, 95, died peacefully at Brooksby Village in Peabody,
Massachusetts on May 23, 2018 after a long, full life of work, family,
travel, and bridge playing. She had spent her last decade at Brooksby, a
retirement community where she was the beneficiary of great
friendships, a friendly and caring staff, and in her last few months,
excellent nursing care. Born in Vincennes, Indiana to Maurice and Helen Whitehouse, Betty
was the eldest of four daughters. From an early age she helped take
care of her sisters. She married John Pershing Hull in January, 1944 and
they had one son, Joe Dennis Hull. She worked as a medical
receptionist and personnel manager for a department store in Salt Lake
City, Utah. She was an avid bridge player, square dancer, and bowler.
She and her husband enjoyed camping and fishing in their motor home
throughout Utah. In 1988, they made a daring cross-country move to
Massachusetts to be near their son and his family. Betty was a
dedicated and cheerful grandmother to her four grandchildren, with
whom she spent a great deal of time. She enjoyed telling stories about
their childhood and advising them. When her family was heading out
to drive on the streets of Massachusetts she would say “Remember,
that other guy’s always a nut!” Her sharp wit and contagious sense of
humor made her the life of any party or family gathering. Even at age
95, she was known to bring her grandchildren, nurses, and aides to
laughter. She had a strong interest in genealogy and tabulated the
family history in detail.
Betty was pre-deceased by her husband and three sisters, Lois, Norma,
and Martha. She is survived by her son Joe, and daughter-in-law
Elizabeth Rose of Georgetown, MA, and her four grandchildren: Derek
and Justine Hull of Martha’s Vineyard, Alex Hull of Brooklyn, NY, and
Olivia Hull of Somerville, MA. She is also survived by her nieces Patti
Thomas of Salt Lake City, Utah and Karen Corner of Watsonville,
California. Her nephew Nick Farezoco lives in Sacramento, California.
Her two great grandchildren are Nathan and Anya Kohler of Martha’s
Vineyard.
