Edward B. Hopping, Sr.

Edward B. Hopping, Sr. of Hamilton, MA. passed away on Tuesday morning, April 23, 2019 at Beverly Hospital surrounded by the love of his family. Edward was born in Beverly, MA on November 24, 1938 to the late Edward J., Jr. and Ruth (Lougee) Hopping. Ed attended Hamilton High School and graduated with his class in June of 1957 and in 1967 joined the Hamilton Fire Department as a Firefighter until 1969. Ed then joined the Hamilton Police Department on March 1, 1969, a position he maintained until his retirement on August 26, 2001. Ed enjoyed being a member of the B.P.O. Elks, Lodge # 892 in Gloucester, the Aleppo Shriners in Wilmington and The Masons, Liberty Lodge in Beverly. During his spare time, Ed enjoyed the outdoors by camping, hunting, fishing and golf. He loved to travel, dance and play cards, however his greatest passion was being in the company of friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
Edward is survived by his loving children, Lisa D. Braica and her husband Steven of Agawam, MA, Ellen N. Smith and her husband Tony of Bedford, NH, Edward B. Hopping, Jr. and his wife Jody of CT and Matthew Hopping and his wife Nicole of Gloucester, MA. his cherished grandchildren, Darryl, Jeremy, Connor, Nyle, Katelyn, Jordan and Ryken, his great-granddaughter, Alexis, his siblings, Linda M. Hopping-Bertone of South Hamilton, Dale Hopping- Dumphy of Sandown, NH, Merritt J. Hopping, Sr. of Agawam, MA  as well as his nieces and nephews, Richard, Theresa, Rodney, Merritt, Jr., Cathy, Jackie, Kristen, Joy, Susie,  Ronnie and Vicki. Ed was predeceased by his brother, Ronald P. Hopping in 1993.
Family and friends are kindly invited to attend Ed's Funeral Service on Saturday, April 27th at 11 O'clock in the First Church in Wenham, 1 Arbor Street, Wenham. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Boxford. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 8pm in the Conte - Giamberardino Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown.
