Gretchen M. (Stone) Wilmarth, 90, of Salem, NH and formerly of Georgetown and Melbourne, FL. passed away peacefully on October 23, 2019 at the Hannah Duston Healthcare Center in Haverhill, surrounded by the love of her family. Gretchen was born in Newburyport to the late Joseph E. and Alice G. (Guerette) Stone. She grew up on Rings Island in Salisbury, MA and graduated from Newburyport High School in 1946. She received two Associates Degrees – Liberal Arts and Law Enforcement from Northern Essex Community College. She lived in Georgetown for many years and worked for the Town of Georgetown. She also was employed by the Commonwealth of MA at Hogan Regional Center, Hathorne, MA before retiring in 1990 when she moved to Melbourne, Florida and resided for 20 years. While living in Georgetown, she was a member of the Georgetown Housing Authority from 1970 – 1988. She also was President of the Band Parents Association and she was active in the Republican Town Committee. She was a kind and caring wife, mother and grandmother with an inner strength that never quit. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed hosting many open houses on Christmas Eve in Georgetown. She truly enjoyed the family camping trip adventures and the many other places to which she traveled over the years. She had a great spirit that will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
Gretchen was the beloved wife of Paul C. Wilmarth with whom she shared over 72 years of marriage and is also survived by their children, Gina M. Wilmarth of Bradford, Perry J. Wilmarth and his wife Debra of Salem, NH and Thomas P. Wilmarth and his wife Karin of Georgetown, her grandchildren, Kerrin Randall and her husband Jason, Kyle Wilmarth and his wife Amanda and Terrence Wilmarth, her great-grandchildren, Jack and Hallie Randall and Easton Wilmarth as well as her many nieces and nephews. Gretchen was predeceased by her siblings, Joseph Stone, Barbara Collier, Olive Swirk and Paula Perrault.
Family and friends are kindly invited to attend her Funeral Service on Saturday, November 2nd at 2 O'clock in the Conte - Giamberardino Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown. Interment will be held privately in Harmony Cemetery, Georgetown. Visitation will be held prior to her service from 12 to 2pm.
