Carol Ann Harvey, a long-time resident of Boxford, died unexpectantly at home on July 5 th despite the heroic efforts of emergency medical personnel. Carol was born February 19, 1943, to Philip Kavanaugh and Irene Cole in Greenfield, MA. She grew up in Millers Falls and attended Turners Fall High School, class of 1960. Carol Kavanaugh continued her education at Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA (class of 1964); and then taught elementary school in her hometown. While in her freshman year at Anna Maria, Carol met a WPI student from New Jersey. Carol and Stephen Harvey dated through their college years in the Worcester area and continued dating while Steve attended graduate school and worked in New Jersey. Carol and Steve were married on August 20, 1966, and began their married life in Bernardsville, NJ. Soon after Carol taught first grade at nearby Liberty Corner School until their first child, Patrick, was born in 1968.
Steve’s work transfer in 1969 brought Carol, Steve and Patrick to Boxford. With additions and updates to their home, the Harveys have lived at the same address for 54 years. While a stay-at- home mom, Carol connected with other mothers' groups using her education background. A daughter, Amy was born in 1972, but she had a heart birth defect and sadly died in the hospital. Carol began substituting in the Boxford and Topsfield elementary schools until daughter, Megan, was born in 1975. When Megan reached school age, Carol returned to substitute teaching. When Steve retired in 2007, so did Carol. Once retired, Carol and Steve were able to travel to Italy/Sicily several times, to Caribbean islands on various cruise ships; and a special trip to Paris and London.
Carol loved her yard and was proud of the landscaping with flowering plants and trees. Carol was also a Life Boating member of the Ipswich Bay Yacht Club and once served as Club Secretary. Carol and Steve became active members of the LaSalette Shrine Community in the 1970’s at what is now known as Turners Hill in Ipswich. They have since followed the LaSalette Faith Community as the Sunday 9:15 meeting location has moved several times over the past 28 years. Carol made many dear friends through the years in Millers Falls, in college, in teaching, as a Boxford mother, at IBYC, and most especially with the LaSalette Faith Community.
Besides her loving husband Steve, Carol leaves son, Patrick of Fort Worth, TX with his wife Jayleen; daughter Megan of Pelham, NH with her significant other Paul; brother Peter Mosseau of Concord NH with his wife Mary; two grandchildren, Kallum and Jacob and two great grandchildren, Eleanor and Jett.
Carol will be remembered as a wife to one, mother to three, and friend to all.
