Born August 2, 1938 in Paterson, NJ to the late Dorothy (Potterton) and Vernon O. Moorman, and raised in Clifton, NJ, Cathy was the middle child of eleven. She died January 3, 2020 following complications arising from a fall. A 1959 graduate of Simmons College, Cathy was married to Jack L’Hommedieu in 1959 and shared 53 years with him until his death in 2012, and rejoins him now. Jack and Cathy moved to Georgetown in 1964 and raised two daughters and countless vegetable gardens together. She was a member of the Georgetown Country Gardeners for a time, and of the Georgetown Historical Society. Through the years Cathy worked in numerous administrative positions at the Georgetown Town Hall, Moulison Electric, and for local attorneys Rudolph, Andrews, Arsenault & Kroner. She also worked for many years at the Georgetown Peabody Library, retiring in 2012. She taught 4-H groups how to cook and sew, and did the same for her daughters. An avid cook, seamstress and craftswoman, Cathy sewed clothes for herself and her family, baked countless pies and cookies for her friends and family, and recently had been knitting items for her sister’s church group to donate to the Seamen’s Mission. Friendly and caring, Cathy always had a kind word for everyone, but her real joy was her family. A devoted mother, she loved her daughters through thick and thin. She was delighted to be called Grandmother or Mimi and doted on her grandchildren. Cathy leaves her daughters Susanne Stuart and her husband Ken and their daughter Heather, and Nancy Gallagher and her husband John and their children John, Patrick, Thomas and Keely. In addition, she
leaves her siblings Dorothy “Dorrie” Meyers, Ruth (Johnson) Hardin, Mary Smith, Margaret “Peggy” Choudhury (Wasi), Peter “Pete” Moorman (Diane), and Alice Moorman (Rick Ramseyer), along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relations. Cathy was preceded in death by her sisters Nancy Hall and Cynthia Moorman, and her brothers Vernon E. “Ed” Moorman and Frank Moorman.
There will be no calling hours or services. Cathy followed in her own mother’s footsteps in providing support to the homeless. Those who would like to remember Cathy may do so through donations to Emmaus Inc., PO Box 568, Haverhill, MA 01831 or https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/EmmausInc.
