David Varga Obituary

David E Varga, 82, of Georgetown, MA passed away Friday, September 19, 2025 at his home. David was born in New Brunswick, NJ to Elizabeth Sinley and Ernest Varga.  After his parents’ divorce, he was raised in upstate New York by his mother.  He attended Northeastern University, earning his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1966.  He became a Professional Engineer and Professional Land Surveyor, working full time into his early 70s and continuing part time until recently.  David still remembered many of the projects that he worked on and would point out subdivisions he had designed while driving around with his daughter.

David strongly believed in education and technology.  He kept a PC in the house and taught his daughters to use it.  In the early 1990s he taught a few engineering technology classes at UMass Lowel.  He was always ready to answer a question with a very detailed explanation.

David loved the outdoors.  He grew up working on his neighbor’s dairy farm and building elaborate tree houses.  As an adult, he built shelves and handrails around the house and did various home repair projects.  As a young man, he enjoyed mountain climbing and skiing with friends and later with his (late) wife Karen.  He was an active amateur photographer for many years.  He loved sailing his 15 foot sailboat.  He was a devoted husband.  He was a dedicated member of Second Congregational Church in Beverly, MA, where he served as the church treasurer for over 30 years.  He loved animals. He frequently told stories about his German Shepard, Buff.  Even as his health declined, he would reach out to pet his cat, Willow.

David was preceded in death by his wife, Karen (Nokes) Varga.  He is survived by his two daughters, Kristin R Varga of Columbiana, AL and Katherine Anspaugh of Maine.

Family and friends are invited to attend David’s graveside service Friday morning, October 3rd at 11 o’clock at Harmony Cemetery, Central Street, Georgetown.  David may be remembered through donations to local churches, support of land conservation, or any animal society or shelter.
