Dorene P. (Parsons) Schaffner

April 3, 1945 ~ January 5, 2021 (age 75)


Dorene Schaffner passed away after a brief illness at Lahey Hospital in Burlington on January 5, 2021 at the age of 75. Dorene was born in Salem on April 3, 1945 to Gordon K. and Daisy “Peggy” (Craven) Parsons. She graduated from Lynn English High School in 1962 and from the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital School of Nursing in 1965. On July 2, 1966, she married Edward Barry Schaffner at St. Stephen’s Church
in Lynn. They moved to Georgetown in 1967, where they raised their two children. A lifelong registered nurse, she began her career at Union Hospital in Lynn and retired from Andover Dermatology in 2006. She continued to work part time until 2011 for an elder-care agency, providing daily assistance and transportation for elderly clients. Dorene was an avid reader, a diehard fan of the Patriots and Red Sox, and loved spending time with her two grandsons and her Keeshond rescue dog Nala. Dorene was predeceased by Ed, her husband of nearly 54 years, in 2020. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca and her husband Jose of Edgecomb, Maine, son, Daniel and his wife Jennifer of Rowley, Massachusetts, grandsons Ian and Graham, her sister Dale Anderson, nephew Michael Anderson, and niece Rachel  (Anderson) Hagenmayer.
Services for Dorene will be private in accordance with her wishes. The family requests that those who wish to express their sympathy please consider making a donation in her memory to their local animal shelter or to K.A.R.M.A
