Elizabeth “June” Boccalatte, a beloved resident of Boxford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Sunday, July 6, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on May 12, 1935, in Fancy Farm, Kentucky, June grew up in a devout Catholic family that instilled in her a strong foundation of faith and service. At the age of 18, she followed a calling to religious life and entered the convent. During her ten years there, she pursued her education and earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. She went on to teach schoolchildren in Alabama, sharing both her knowledge and her quiet strength.
After leaving the convent, June relocated to the Hartford, Connecticut area, where a new chapter of her life began. It was there that she met William F. “Bill” Boccalatte, Jr., the love of her life. They married in 1969 and built a life filled with love, partnership, and devotion. Their early years together were spent in a cozy apartment on Sigourney Street in Hartford, before moving to Vernon, Connecticut, where they raised their two children and spent 28 joyful years creating lasting memories.
In retirement, June and Bill moved to Versailles, Kentucky to be closer to June’s family roots. Later they settled in Charlotte, North Carolina to be near their daughter, and eventually made their final home in Boxford, Massachusetts with their son. No matter where life took them, June carried a deep sense of home and family with her. June had a fulfilling career at Aetna, where she worked with quiet dedication until her retirement in 1998. After retiring, she and Bill traveled widely, exploring the United States, Europe, and even China. June and Bill also made many wonderful memories spending time with “the cousins.” At home, June found happiness in the simple joys of life: tending to her garden, trying new recipes and getting lost in a good book. She was a quiet force within her family, offering steady guidance, endless patience, and practical wisdom that will remain in the hearts of her children and grandchildren.
June is survived by her son, Philip Boccalatte and his wife, Flor, of Boxford, Massachusetts, her daughter, Julie (Boccalatte) Eudy and her husband, Clint, of New London, North Carolina, and her cherished granddaughters: Isabella and Elizabeth Boccalatte of Boxford, and Paysen and Kaysi Doran of New London. She is also survived by her sisters: Mary Ann Hobbs Parcell and her husband, Jack, of Fancy Farm, Kentucky, Edith Shelley Hobbs Cook and her husband, Ules, also of Fancy Farm, and Dianna Carol Hobbs Hand of Murray, Kentucky. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins will also remember her with great affection.
June was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, Bill, her parents, Kelvie and Mary Hobbs of Fancy Farm, her brother, William Donald Hobbs and his wife, Dorothy, of Austin, Texas, her sister and brother-in-law, Emma Delores Hobbs Toon and James Bernard Toon of Fancy Farm, and her brother-in-law, G. Randolph Hand of Murray.
June will be remembered for her unwavering love, her calm presence, and her gentle wisdom. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
Services for June will be privately held.
