Frederick Mendes Obituary

Frederick Mendes of Boxford MA passed away peacefully on the morning of July 31,2024. Fred was the son of the late Janet (Morrison) Allaby, stepfather, Harry Allaby and biological father Fred Mendes. He was born and raised in Lowell, MA and graduated from Westford academy in 1966. After graduating, Fred joined the United States Air force and proudly served as a jet engine mechanic from 1966 to 1969.

Fred married the love of his life, Beverly in 1970, acquired an associate's degree in Electromechanical technology. In 1980, he started his own emergency generator business, Controls and Power Systems, Inc and was known to his customers as the ‘generator whisperer’. He kept the lights on for dozens of hospitals and nursing homes for 43 years before retiring in 2023.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Beverly, son and daughter in law Jason and Aimee Mendes, son, Shaun Mendes of Mebane, North Carolina, daughter Wendy Mendes of Rochester New York, sister, Linda Somers of Vermont, brother-in-law Jeffery Engelhard, sister-in-law Anne Engelhard and best friend John Stafford and his wife Mary. He was pre-deceased by his brother, David Mendes. Fred leaves behind a large loving family of many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He fought a courageous battle with cancer until the end, and will be remembered for his dedication to family, giant hands, even bigger heart.

 

Family and friends are kindly invited to attend Fred's Funeral Service on Monday morning, August 5th at 10 o'clock in the Conte - Giamberardino Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 4th from 3 to 6pm in the funeral home.
