James Gary McCarron, age 70, of Georgetown, passed away on Saturday February 8, after a two-year battle with lung cancer. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his children and sister. In death, Gary is reunited with his beloved wife Shawn who passed away in June 2023.
Born in Lynn on May 13, 1954, he was the son of the late James and Clara McCarron. James was raised in Danvers and graduated Danvers High School class of ‘72.
After high school, James (aka Jim or Gary) enjoyed many motorcycle adventures across the country. Eventually, he settled back on the North Shore where he met and married his wife, Shawn, and moved to Georgetown to raise their family. In the early 90’s, James joined IUOE Local 4 as a crane operator, proudly working on some of Boston’s biggest and most iconic projects including the “Big Dig”, new MGH, Maverick T station, Chelsea Street Bridge and Frog Pond (to name a few). He retired in 2017 to enjoy motorcycle rides, golfing, time perfecting his biscotti recipe, and filling the role of grandfather aka “Buzz” to his grandchildren.
James was a hardworking, loyal jack of all trades. From oil changes to bathroom rebuilds, to baking a perfect pumpkin pie, he could do it all like a pro. He was always up for an adventure, whether up the street to grab coffees, a hike in NH, a cross-country road trip with his daughter, Kat, or a golf trip with his son, Jim. Gary loved any opportunity to have a celebration and always made sure there was dessert on the menu!
He is survived by his sister, Jamie McCarron of Sparks, MD and his four children, Erica Linehan of Seabrook, NH, James D. McCarron of Norwell, Chelsea McCarron of West Newbury, Kati McCarron of Epping, NH, and seven grandchildren.
A celebration of life event will be held in late spring. For information, please reach out to Chelsea McCarron via email chelsea.mccarron@gmail.com.
