James Stefanile, Jr. Obituary

James (Jimmy) D. Stefanile, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on December 17, 2025, at Exeter Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 6, 1966, in Newburyport, Massachusetts to Donna R. (Thistlewood) & James D. Stefanile, Sr. Jimmy grew up in Byfield with his mom and dad, along with his siblings, Gina, Annalisa & Tommy.

Jimmy and his wife Kristin made their home in Newton, NH. for the past 29 years. This is where they raised their two children, Kyle and Krystiana. Jimmy became a deeply respected and familiar presence in the community. There wasn’t a person in town that didn’t know Jimmy.

Jimmy was a lifelong athlete and a very talented hockey player. He competed for Triton Regional High School, Team USA, Northeastern University and the United States Postal Service teams. His love for sports extended far beyond his own playing days. He began coaching baseball and softball for the town of Newton where his children participated. He dedicated countless hours to supporting young athletes. More recently, he spent the past three years coaching field hockey for the Sanborn Regional Middle School alongside his daughter Krystiana. This past year Jimmy stepped in as head coach. He was admired and respected by all of his athletes for his leadership, fairness and unwavering encouragement.

Jimmy recently retired from the United States Postal Service after 35 years of dedicated service. Outside of work and coaching, Jimmy enjoyed hunting, fishing and walking in the woods with his beloved dog, Shadow. He was also known for his quick wit, warm sense of humor and his unforgettable laugh. He was always ready with something clever to say and able to bring smiles to those around him. At every family gathering he was forced to sing because he had an amazing voice. Jimmy’s kindness, humor and steady presence left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him, and his legacy will live on in the many, many lives he touched.

Preceding him in death were his two brother-in-laws, Ronald S. Smith and Richard (Mike) Hardy.  Jimmy is survived by his wife of 29 years, Kristin (Smith); his son, Kyle; and his daughter, Krystiana.  He also leaves behind his father and mother, James and Donna Stefanile; sister, Gina Hardy; sister, Annalisa Burke, and her husband, John; and brother, Thomas Stefanile, and his wife, Grace. Additionally, he also leaves behind his in-laws, Ronald & Pauline Smith, Kim and Dale Smith,  Tammy Smith, and Frank and Kerry Donovan.  Jimmy also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and several nieces and nephews.
