Janet L. (Smith) Eaton

Janet L. (Smith) Eaton, 77, of Rowley, passed away on January 26, 2022 at Anna Jaques Hospital, Newburyport. Janet was born in Lawrence, MA to the late Alice B. (Emmason) and J. Wallace Smith. Janet was the wife of the late, Paul F. Eaton of Rowley. She was a graduate of North Andover High School, Class of 1962. Janet loved to travel with Paul, especially to Nashville for the music and the people. She loved to knit and crochet, especially, Christmas socks for family and her friends. She was a part of a knitting group on Wednesday’s at The Plaistow, NH Public Library where she created many prayer shawls for those in need, however her greatest passion was being a part of the Merrimack Valley Hospice Bereavement Group, where support and friendships were truly cherished by Janet.
Janet worked for many years as the Assistant Town Clerk in North Andover until her retirement. She volunteered for Opportunity Works and The Special Olympics of Massachusetts.
Janet is survived by her sons, Andrew Eaton, who has been there to support her for years, Steve and Brenda Waters, David and Margaret Eaton, Tom and Wanda Eaton, Daniel Eaton, Robert and Anne Eaton and Paul Eaton, Jr., her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces, her siblings, Lorna Dufresne and Glen Smith. Janet was predeceased by her daughter, Karen Mahoney, her great-granddaughter, Mavis Wright and her sister, Berniece Ventrillo.


The Earth has lost a kind soul, Heaven has gained an Angel.


Family and friends are kindly invited to Janet’s Funeral Service on Saturday, February 12th at 12 Noon in the Conte – Giamberardino Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown. Interment will follow in Main Street Cemetery, Rowley. Visitation will be prior to her service from 10 to noon.
