John Ihle Obituary

John W. Ihle, 74, of Boxford, MA passed away on September 29 th 2021 surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Lynn, MA on August 3rd 1947 to the late Dan and Miriam (Davidson) Ihle. John grew up in Lynn, MA along with his late sister Jane (Ihle) Kennedy and they spent their summers travelling to see family in Iowa and South Dakota. John was a lifelong believer and active member of Boy Scouts of America, having earned his Eagle Scout. John graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from UMass Lowell, and had a lengthy and successful career in manufacturing. John was an expert woodcarver, following in his father’s footsteps. He also had a passion for cars and building anything his two hands would allow – which included additions to homes, model and real cars, and anything his children asked for. John was especially proud of rebuilding his grandparent’s car, a 1949 Ford, which he had towed from the Midwest to MA and termed his retirement project. John’s children meant everything to him, he often bragged to others about how they all played 45s at the dinner table together every night, making sure that no food plates were placed in the way of the card game. You could find John cheering on any one of his four children almost any day of the week at a sporting event or helping out a Boy Scouts’ event as he was an Assistant Scout Master.
John is survived by his wife Colleen (Weiler) Ihle of Boxford MA and his many children, Jonathan Ihle and his wife Lauryn (Blevins) Ihle, Jessica Ihle-Smith and her husband Jeffrey Smith, Jennifer (Ihle) Hamilton and her husband David Hamilton, and Jeremiah Ihle. John leaves behind his many beloved grandchildren Estella, Reese, Cooper, Chase, and Violet, along with his brothers- in-law, Charles Weiler and Robert Kennedy, several nieces and nephews, a great-niece, and two great-nephews.
