John (Pete) Zibell, a long-time resident of Georgetown passed away on November 5, 2021, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital with his daughter by his side.
Most people knew him as “Pete”. He was born June 28, 1928, in Hebron, N.H. to James Zibell and Eleanor (Ingalls) Malloy. Pete was raised in Boxford by his grandparents Leslie and Pearl Ingalls. He graduated from Lowell Trade School April 1945. After graduation he went logging with his grandfather and uncles.
Pete married Rosaleen (Enos) June 24, 1950. He joined her father farming full time until 1960. He had a young family and needed to provide for them. He was a heavy equipment operator and drove tractor trailers in Boston. He was a crane operator on the Prudential Building project in the mid 1960’s. He retired as a fleet mechanic of 21 years with Brockway-Smith in Andover, MA .
Pete enjoyed many things. He loved his family, friends, animals, and the farm he called home for 71 years. He was an active citizen of Georgetown. He was the interim road surveyor until the next election, A member of the Central Fire Station for 23 years. The Civil Defense Director during the blizzard of 1978. A poll worker at elections. A member of the Grange. Past President of the Georgetown Fish and Game. A member of the Essex County Investigators Association, Honorary member of the Myopia Driving Club. The Barnstormers Square Dance Club, The Good Sam Club with the New Hampshire Division the Blazers.
He loved children and had many that call him “Pa Pete”. That includes Patrick and Katie Connolly, Austin, Ashley, and Alexandra Lambright. He also had a special bond with Amy Madden Gianacoples. Anyone that met Pete shared a friendship with him. He was always willing to help someone.
Pete was predeceased by his wife, Rosaleen, his sister, Barbara Morgan and brother Earl L. Zibell Sr. He leaves behind his daughter, Kathy Potter and her companion Scott Milbury of Georgetown, a son, John Jr. and his wife Jeanne of Huntsville, AL. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Family and friends are kindly invited to attend his Funeral Service on Monday morning, November 15th at 11am in the Conte - Giamberardino Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street Georgetown, MA. Interment will follow at the Harmony Cemetery, Central Street, Georgetown.
