Judith Susan Tidd died on July 11th, 2023, after a two-year struggle with cancer. Born as Judith Peters in Caribou Maine, she (like many children in that region) learned the virtues of labor each harvest season by picking potatoes. This work ethic remained ingrained throughout her life. Once grown, she picked up stakes and migrated to Boston where she worked for the Aetna Insurance company. There, she befriended Jane Flynn, who would become her best friend. Ms. Flynn invited Judith to live with her family in Georgetown, MA, where she subsequently met and married Nilson Tidd. Together, they participated in the design and construction of their own house, where they raised five self-reliant daughters.
At the same time, she helped support the family, first with various jobs and later with her own home business, where she used her skills to produce children’s jackets, buntings and bonnets that she sold at craft fairs and later, online. Today, thousands of her handcrafted products are keeping children warm all over the country.
With great fortitude, she endured many hardships throughout her life including two bouts with breast cancer and the death of one of her children, Bethany. She passed that spirit of perseverance.
She is survived by daughters Susan Valliere, Nicole Linton, Erin Campbell and Lauren Tidd; her husband, Nilson Tidd, her brothers, David and Dana Peters, from Florida and her aunt, Sister Theresa Clavette, from Baie St. Paul, QC.
Upon Judith’s instructions, there will be no services.
