Karen L (Nokes) Varga, 77, of Georgetown MA, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Port Healthcare Center. Karen was born in Beverly MA to the late Phillip E and Esther May (Whitney) Nokes. She was the wife of David E Varga of Georgetown MA. Before raising her children, Karen worked for 10 years in the accounting department of United Shoe Machinery Corporation (The Shoe). Karen was an active member of her church family at Second Congregational Church of Beverly her entire life. One of her greatest joys was singing with the church, in the choir as a girl and as a member of the congregation throughout her life. She loved to knit, and she knit numerous prayer shawls, baby blankets, and hats for donation to various charities, as well as gifts for her family. She played the piano often and appreciated music. She preferred spending time outside – cultivating flower gardens around the house, watching the birds at the feeder, swimming both at the pond in Georgetown and summer vacations at Great East Lake in ME. In her younger years, she enjoyed mountain climbing throughout the Adirondacks and the White Mountains with her husband. Later in life, mountain climbing became hiking in the local state parks and conservation areas. She was an avid cat lover and appreciated other animals, supporting numerous animal related charities. During quiet times, she enjoyed reading and doing word puzzles. Karen also loved to cook. She baked dozens of cookies at a time and often tried new recipes.
Karen was preceded in death by her twin sister, Carol Jean Nokes, and her oldest brother Kenneth W. Nokes. She is survived by her husband, David E Varga, their two daughters (Kristin R Varga of Columbiana AL and Katherine Anspaugh of Maine), her older brother David S. Nokes, several nieces and nephews, and one Maine Coon cat (Willow).
Family and friends are kindly invited to attend Karen's Graveside Service on Saturday morning, February 12th at 11 0'clock in the Harmony Cemetery, Central Street, Georgetown.
