Kevin Lee “Curly” “Mono” Monahan, age 60, passed away with his loving family by his side at Beverly Hospital on Friday, October 20, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Palma Leigh (Foley) Monahan, with whom he had shared over 24 wonderful years of marriage. Prior to his passing, he selflessly arranged the donation of his corneas, in the hopes of getting to help someone one last time.
Born in Beverly, MA on April 30, 1963, he was a dear son of the late Richard M. and Ellen (Keniston) Monahan. Kevin graduated from Whittier Technical School with the Class of 1981. Following his education, he proudly enlisted with the United States Marines, spending 9 months of his time at Camp Lejeune, Kevin was always dedicated to his country. He served valiantly on a sub tender in the Indian Ocean and was always on a ship during his deployment. Upon his return from the service, Kevin went on to own his own masonry company and spent many years building beautiful patios, chimneys, walls, fireplaces or anything you asked for he would create it.
Besides being a devoted husband and loving father, Kevin’s favorite title he held was “Papa”. He was a deeply kind and caring man, who always went the extra mile to make sure his children and grandchildren knew just how much he loved them. Whether he was treating them to days on the houseboat on Plum Island, complete with sandbar parties or just laying low staying out of the spotlight, Kevin always took great care to make long lasting memories with everyone he met. No matter how subtle, there was never an event Kevin attended where his bright and uplifting presence wasn’t felt, and he will be deeply missed by anyone who was lucky enough to know him.
Along with his dear wife, Kevin is survived by his two sons, R. Craig Cole of Hampton, NH and Justin M. Cole and his wife Amy of Salisbury, his four grandchildren, Maya, Phoebe, Rowan and Calan Cole, his siblings, Richard “Red” Monahan and his wife Elizabeth of Newburyport and Mark Monahan of Rowley, his niece and nephews, Meghan Monahan, Kyle Monahan and Patrick Monahan and his wife Lyndsey, his great-nephew, Penn, his dog Gunnar, with whom he shared a very special bond as well as many other dear friends and family. Kevin was the brother of the late Michael Monahan and the uncle of the late Richard “Little Ricky” Monahan, Jr.
