Louis C. Dispenza, 87, of Georgetown, Mass passed away January 14, 2021 at Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure. Lou was born in Rochester, New York to the late Cosmo and Alice (Polino) Dispenza. He was predeceased by his wife Carol Wirkkala. Lou is survived by his loving daughter Lorrie Dispenza, of Haverhill, Mass, his beloved grandson Antonio (Tony) Guerrero of Boston, Mass. He is also survived by his dear sister Carol Hrehovcik and her husband Steve of Kennebunk, Maine, his loving friend and companion Ann Jaroncyk and beloved extended family and friends.
Lou was raised in Haverhill, Mass. He joined the Army and was assigned to Eritrea where he enjoyed cooking for hundreds of hungry soldiers. Lou continued his love of cooking for the rest of his life. He earned his Master’s degree at Lowell Teachers College. He was the principal at Currier School and taught Language Arts at Newburyport’s Nock School from 1972 until he retired.
Lou loved live theater. He and his wife Carol joined Georgetown friends and formed the Georgetown Theatre Workshop (GTW) in 1974. GTW, under Lou’s tutelage encouraged anyone who desired working on or off the stage to join the group. Lou was in his glory when he was on stage and especially loved playing Shakespeare’s comedy “I Hate Hamlet”. Lou was fond of saying “Exit Laughing”
Family and friends are kindly invited to attend his visitation on Wednesday, January 20th from 4 to 7 pm at the Conte-Giamberardino Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown. Interment with Military Honors will be on Thursday at 12:30 pm at Harmony Cemetery, Central Street, Georgetown. All are welcome to join the family in this final farewell.
