Marjory Shaw Burke passed away on Sunday, December 8 after a brave cancer battle.
Margie was born on May 18, 1954, the first child of the late Warren B. Shaw and the late Norma M. (Williamson) Shaw. She lived in Groveland, MA for nearly all of her life and was a 1972 graduate of Pentucket Regional High School.
She married John M. Burke, of Newburyport, in 1981 and they enjoyed 43 wonderful years together. They were a sitcom-esque team, with Margie’s bubbly personality perfectly meshing with John’s witty and dry humor. The laughs they shared were plentiful and they never took life too seriously. She enjoyed being silly around her family.
Margie’s pride and joy were her three sons, Matthew, Michael and Nathan. Until her dying days, Margie always put her children and grandchildren first.
The big, white house on Rollins Street was always filled with laughter. Humor was at the forefront of every conversation.
Margie was an artist, and very active in the community. She was an expert at cheating during family Trivial Pursuit games and always loved to sing and dance despite John and her sons pleading with her to stop. She was a wonderful cook, always finding time to prepare a family dinner despite working multiple jobs at times and also going back to college during her children’s formative years. Everything she would create in the kitchen was excellent, even though her sons would sometimes tease her that she didn’t have a “signature dish.” She created such a warm family atmosphere, especially during Patriots games on Sundays when she would make her famous chili or shepherd’s pie.
Margie worked for many years as the office manager at Ralph A. Esty and Son’s Lumber in Groveland. She also worked as a medical transcriber at Baldpate in Georgetown, Merrimack Valley Hospital and Urology Associates of Essex North.
Margie is survived by her husband John, of Groveland, her son Matthew and daughter in law Kaitlin of Merrimac, MA, her son Michael of Groveland, and her son Nathan and his fiancée Ressa of Haverhill. She is also survived by her sister, Katherine J. Shaw of Groveland, beloved nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. She is predeceased by her brother, Robert B. Shaw.
Margie also leaves behind grandsons Martin and Vincent Burke of Merrimac, both of whom she absolutely adored. In later years she cherished bringing Martin and Vincent to local playgrounds and spending as much time as possible with her two “little cuties.”
Family and friends are invited to her Funeral Service on Friday afternoon, December 13th at 1:45 in the Conte - Giamberardino Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown. Visitation will be prior to her service from 12 to 2pm. Interment is private.
