Mary Elizabeth (McCarthy) Konaxis

Mary Elizabeth Konaxis, 98, of Boxford, MA,  died Friday, August 9, 2019 in Stoneham, MA surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 11, 1921 in East Boston, MA to the late John and Elizabeth (Connely) McCarthy.
Mary graduated from Arlington High School, Class of 1938 and shortly enlisted in the Navy and served her country proudly until the end of World War II when she was honorably discharged on June 8, 1946. Mary worked for many years as a telephone operator for New England Telephone Co. During her free time, Mary's favorite hobby was shopping on QVC for her favorite designers, however her greatest passion was being in the company of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late, William J. Konaxis and she is surivived by her children, James Konaxis and his wife LuAnn of Stoneham,  John Konaxis of Woburn, MA and Susan Whitney of Newburyport, MA., her Grandchildren Erin Whitney, Kristin Clancy and her husband Ryan, Kevin Whitney and his wife Jaime, Tara and her husband Michael, William Konaxis and his wife Danielle and Stephen Konaxis and his wife Laura, as well as 8 great grandchildren and her niece Karen McCarthy and her husband Billy. Mary is predeceased by her brothers, William, John and Leo McCarthy.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conte-Giamberardino Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown, MA. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 94 Andover Street, Georgetown.Interment will follow at the Village Cemetery in Boxford, MA.
