Norma M. Johnson, 95, died peacefully on May 3, 2023, at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill with her children at her side. Norma was born on September 6, 1927, in her family home in Georgetown, the fifth of six children born to Bessie (Brocklebank) and L. Sherman Lee. She grew up and attended school in Georgetown, graduating as Salutatorian from Perley High School in 1945. Norma’s childhood was full of fun and action with siblings, relatives and children from the neighborhood. She was very athletic and always enjoyed playing and watching sports.
Although she was only five feet tall, she played basketball in high school and beyond. She and her husband, Mahlon, had five children and she was totally devoted to them. They purchased the family home on Pentucket Avenue, and she lived there until she was 90 years old. She was without a doubt the biggest fan of all her children and grandchildren, attending as many of their sporting events and performances as possible. Norma worked various jobs in Georgetown when she was young before beginning a career at New England Telephone in Haverhill, Salisbury and Newburyport. She retired in 1977 after 32 years.
Norma was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Leonard, Kenneth (Cody) and Richard and her sister, Thelma Cheney. She is survived by her sister, Betty Rogers and by her children, Sandy Olley, Marcia Perkins, Donna Braden and her husband Steve, Lori Gillen and her husband Jeff and Douglas Johnson. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Alex Olley, Bryony Kean and her husband Liam, Paul, Zack, and Mike Braden, Kelly Scholler and her husband Dan, Kyle Gillen, and Finnegan & Callum McBride and three great-grandchildren, Betty and Duncan Kean and Cameron Scholler.
Family and friends are kindly invited to Norma's visitation on Friday evening, June 9th from 4 to 7pm in the Conte - Giamberardino Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown.
