Richard Johnson Obituary

Richard E. Johnson, 93, a resident of Groveland since 1960, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the Bedford V.A. Hospital.
He was the son of the late William D. & Muriel Taylor Johnson, born in Brockton, MA on November 16, 1928. A graduate of Perley High School,
Georgetown, MA Richard served in the U. S. Navy from June, 1946 - April, 1948 serving on the USS Mindoro CVE120. In 1955 he married Barbara Elizabeth (Holt) Johnson. He is survived by daughter, Deborah A. Johnson and partner Pamela J. Auch of Hampton, NH, son, Douglas D. Johnson and partner Sandra L. Jennings of Kingston, NH and daughter Donna E. Felisberto and son-in-law, Allen of Newton, NH. He was predeceased by sons, David R. Johnson and Dana W. Johnson. Loving grandfather of four grandchildren, Jolene D. Johnson, Jodi L. McGroarty and husband Robert, Alex J. Felisberto and Ashley E. Felisberto and two great grandchildren, Rory Mc Groarty and Elodie McGroarty. Also, several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Robert D. Johnson, sister Arlene Johnson Phillips and brother Warren E. Johnson. He leaves sisters-in-laws Sally Ann Young, Nancy L. Johnson and brother-in-law, Jonathan E. Holt.
Richard was employed for over 50 years in the Municipal Water Industry retiring in 1998 from Hydro Group-Layne Well & Pump Division. For the next several years he worked for the Town of Concord, MA Water District. Richard served two terms as a Water Commissioner for the Town of Groveland and for sixteen years as a volunteer member of the Groveland Well Pollution Committee. Richard was a life member of Hannah Dustin #20 DAV, a life Member of Charles C. Dame Lodge, Georgetown and a 60 year member of the Massachusetts Water Works Association and the New England Water Association.

Richard "Grampie" and his wife Barbara created wonderful memories for their grandchildren that included cruises to the Caribbean Islands, winter vacations at Shades of Green located in Disney World, exploring the Northeast Kingdom Vermont, and many special vacations in The Great North Woods staying at The Glen located on the First Connecticut Lake in Pittsburg, NH. 


A private funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at the Conte- Giamberardino Funeral Home located at 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown, MA  beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Harmony Cemetery, Georgetown.
