Robert Davidson Obituary

Robert O. Davidson, age 84, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019. Beloved husband of 60 years to Elizabeth (Dupee) Davidson, proud father to Didi Langell (Richard), Barry Davidson (Michelle) and Karen Townley (Andy) and devoted grandfather to Nicole, Richard, Christopher, Robert, Brian, Derek and Steven. Bob was born and raised in West Barnstable, MA by parents Eino and Ellen who came to America from Finland and spoke only Finnish at home. Although an only child, Bob had several close cousins who loved him dearly.
Bob excelled as an athlete. In high school he was a member of the undefeated football team at Barnstable High School. Bob played semi-pro baseball for the Cape Cod Baseball League in Cotuit and continued to play baseball as a young adult. Bob took up golf in his 40’s which became a passion for several decades.
After graduating high school, Bob joined the United States Marine Corps. Besides his extreme pride of being 100% Finnish, Bob’s pride for serving his country in the Marine Corps was unwavering. Rarely would you spot Bob anywhere without some item of clothing on that indicated he was a Marine.
Bob graduated from Wentworth University and went to work for Bell Labs. As with most things, Bob found something he liked, dedicated himself to it, and stayed with the same company until retirement.
The family moved to Georgetown, MA in 1961 and Bob quickly integrated himself into the community. He served on the Jaycees, Park and Recreation Department, Little League Coach, VFW, American Legion and the Kiwanis Club since 1977.
Bob spent his retirement years doting on his grandchildren, traveling and, of course, volunteering his time. Later on, his time was spent as caregiver to his beloved wife. Until his death, Bob would visit his wife in the nursing home twice a day knowing the staff couldn’t possibly take better care of her than he could.
