Samuel McMahon passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, April 2nd after a courageous 8-year battle with brain cancer.
Born on March 12th, 1990, he was raised in Georgetown, Massachusetts. He had a loving and warm childhood allowing him to pursue varied hobbies and activities (piano, karate and of course video games!). He enjoyed family vacations, days spent swimming in the pool with his friends and sister and playing with his cat, Kitkat. Everyone who knew him will tell you how kind and gifted of a person Sam was. He ran track and cross country in high school holding the hurdles record for some time after graduation. Sam then graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2012 with a degree in computer science. During his time at UMass, he played clarinet in the marching band where he traveled across the country representing his school with pride. Sam went on to become a software engineer at Kronos, which brought him to Lowell, MA where he spent his years after college. Sam loved orchestral performances and attended whenever he could. He frequented the Anime Boston Convention and was a particular fan of Studio Ghibli. Sam continued to run and play music in his free time, even performing at a family celebration.
Sam is survived by his loving sister, Jenna McMahon, her husband Frank DeLucia, his niece Sadie Bree DeLucia, his devoted Aunt, Janet Morrissey (JLM) and many close aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother Brenda McMahon, his father Robert McMahon and his uncle Jack Morrissey.
Sam was an extremely humble, kind, inquisitive and generous person. We will miss him dearly. In memory of Sam, watch an Oscar winning movie, choose fish instead of meat and root on UMass Hockey this year.
Visitation for Sam will be held on Saturday morning, April 11th from 11 to 1pm at the Conte - Giamberardino Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown.
The family wishes to invite all who wish to join them at a local restaurant after Sam's visitation to celebrate his life. The venue will be announced.
