Obituary

Walter Adam Rochenski, 91 of Boxford, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2023, at the Masconomet Healthcare Center in Topsfield.
Walter was born in Chelsea, Mass on March 2, 1931. He was drafted at age 18 to serve his country in the Korean War. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged. In 1958 he married the love of his life Loretta. He was employed by the Department of Public Works for most of his career. In 1972 they settled in Boxford, MA to fulfill his dream of living in the “country”. He was humble, kind and loved nature. He enjoyed planting his vegetables each spring and tending to them all season long. Birds and deer in the backyard brought him so much joy. He also enjoyed going out every day with his wife for breakfast and a day of adventure. They would cover the North Shore going to concerts, picnics, or even just sitting by the water talking. He loved his ice cream from Carter’s in Haverhill and would take a drive there several times a week. But his greatest passion was spending time with his family.
“Wally” as he was affectionately called by friends always had a love of sports. Particularly baseball. He had watched and played it since a young age. His favorite player was Carl Yastrzemski – Polish of course! He would come home from work and was never too tired to play a round of catch. He never said no or complained he was too tired even though it was sometimes dark when he would come inside. We love and thank you for your service as a Sergeant in the Army and head of our family.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Loretta (Beaulieu) Rochenski of 63 years. He had a large family who loved him very much. His parents Jennie (Jankowski born in Chelsea) and Archie Rochenski (born in Poland). His children, Dianne Rochenski of Prattsville. NY, Jane and her husband Dana of Sandown NH, Nancy and her husband David of Boxford MA, Thomas and his wife Kate Rugman of Haverhill, MA. His Grandchildren, Laura Tarr, James and Ryan Rochenski, Jennifer Shafran. Along with his great grandchildren, Mason and Theodore Shafran.
Wally is also survived by his siblings, Robert Rochenski of Saugus, MA, Edward Rochenski and his wife Jacqueline of Florida and Carol Bowser of Saugus. He was predeceased by his siblings, Charles Rochenski and Mary Rochenski.
Family and friends are kindly invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Wednesday morning, February 1st at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Parish, Andover Street, Georgetown.
